With China on track to becoming the biggest movie market, it’s no surprise that Hollywood has started to cater directly to them. You can see the effects of that in this new film, The Great Wall. Directed by Zhang Yimou (House of Flying Daggers), and starring Matt Damon, Pedro Pascal, Willem Dafoe and Andy Lau, the film is an unabashed mixture of east meets west, spinning a fictional monster story around the creation of China’s great wall that looks massive. I love that the film seems to be going for it, and that they’ve left some mystery around the creature(s) that’ll no doubt give the film it’s fun.
The Great Wall is scheduled for February 2017, more on it as it comes in.
